May the luck of the Irish be with you!

The Origins of St. Patrick's Day

Originally a religious observance called the Feast of Saint Patrick, St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday commemorated on March 17th, which is believed to be the date of St. Patrick's death. It honors St. Patrick, who spread Christianity in Ireland during the fifth century.

Today, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival, largely due to the influence of the Irish diaspora (Irish people and their descendants living outside Ireland) in North America. Remarkably, until the late 20th century, St. Patrick's Day was more widely celebrated outside Ireland than within the country itself.

Festivities include public parades, music, festivals, gatherings at local bars, formal banquets, dances, and wearing green clothing, often featuring Irish top hats and shamrocks. Famous landmarks are frequently illuminated in green, bars serve green beer, and even the Chicago River is dyed green for the occasion, while people enjoy dishes like corned beef and cabbage and shepherd's pie.

So, here's to everyone having a Safe & Happy St. Patrick's Day! Cheers!
